Electric plant for almost 15 years, George Kern found work at Gardner Cryogenics/Air
Products and Chemicals as middle-shift maintenance man. When the Independent Cryogenics
Workers union was considering affiliation with UE, Brother Kern was among those consulted.
He spoke highly of UE’s democratic ideals and character; ICW affiliated with UE in
February 1993. On his last day of work, July 2, the members of UE Local 111-ICW presented
Brother Kern with an engraved retirement clock and a card signed by all. ‘He is a
fine unionist and his experience will be missed,’ commented Local Pres. Duane Yaindl.
