Gain First Contract
SPENCER, Iowa
Spencer Community School District support staff, members of UE Local 821,
have negotiated a first contract. The more than 110 workers each gain a 75-cent raise in
their one-year agreement, which establishes a grievance procedure, the right to arbitrate
grievances, seniority rights, paid holidays, sick days and paid vacations.
The contract extends sick leave to part-time staff.
The Local 821 negotiating committee consisted of Pres. Beverly Skinner,
Vice Pres. Joyce Speiker, Sec. Sandy Nelson and Linda Manning and Richard
Sorenson, representing the bus drivers and Jerry Bishop, representing the
custodians. They were assisted by UE Field Org. Rocky DeMaio.
