Local 506 Raises
Thousands
For Red Cross
Disaster Relief

ERIE, Pa.

Less than a week after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, UE’s largest local moved quickly into action to raise funds for the victims.

UE Local 506 conducted a plant-gate collection for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund on Sept. 24. that raised $7,516.65. General Electric has promised to match the donation.

Local 506 represents production and maintenance workers employed by GE at its huge plant here.

Joining hourly workers in making contributions were non-exempt salaried workers, who are members of UE Local 618, and other GE employees, including management personnel.

The Local 506 Union News points out that workers in Building 5, on their own, contributed more than $2,700. "With this display and continued acts of charitable giving and volunteerism, we’re confident that our country will pull through this ordeal," the local union newsletter says.
