At Storm Lake Ratify
Fact Finder’s
Award
STORM LAKE, Iowa
The members of amalgamated UE Local 893 employed by the Storm
Lake Community School District have approved a fact finder’s recommendation
that became effective July 1.
After unsuccessful attempts at reaching a voluntary agreement
with the school district, these Local 893 members requested impasse services
from the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB). The Board assigned a
mediator. After several hours of discussion, it became apparent that a
voluntary agreement was not forthcoming.
As a result, a fact-finding hearing took place on April 28.
Evidence on behalf of the union was presented by Local 893-97 Sec.-Treas. Ellen
Rowlet, Chief Steward Rodney Pooler and Intl. Rep. Greg Cross.
The fact finder’s award, containing an across-the-board wage
increase of 50 cents an hour for all bargaining unit employees, received the
ratification of both union members and the school board.
The Local 893-97 negotiating committee consisted of Pres. Bob
Halder, Sec.-Treas. Ellen Rowlett and Chief Steward Rodney Pooler. They
were assisted by Intl. Rep. Greg A. Cross.
