The "UE Campaign for Justice 2000" in North Carolina
helped secure the largest wage increase in 15 years for public employees in
the state. Members of UE Local 150, North Carolina Public Service Workers
Union recruited thousands of workers to sign "Living Wage Ballots,"
organized five workplace forums, distributed literature, lobbied legislators
directly during the first-ever UE Lobby Day in North Carolina on June 14,
called legislators during the final weeks, and strengthened the union by
recruiting hundreds of new members.
