Machinists' Raid
Stopped By PA Independent
WARREN, Pa. – Leaders of the Independent Union of National
Forge Employees (IUNFE) have reported that their union defeated a raid by the
Machinists (IAM) in an NLRB election. The vote was 210 for IUNFE and 177 for the
Machinists.
IUNFE has represented National Forge workers for more than
thirty years and the members are proud of its progressive tradition. During the
1980s, the independent union set a precedent in Pennsylvania by winning
unemployment compensation for its members during a contract dispute lock-out.
Independent union leaders and members are upset that the raid
has caused disunity and hindered preparations for the upcoming contract
negotiations. The vote occurred on held on May 11.
