At the Convention: Registration – 3 pm - 9 pm on Saturday, September 14th; 8:30 am to 9:45 am on Sunday, September 16th. Please register Saturday, if possible. Convention Opens: Sunday at 10 am.

Here are this year's workshop choices.
Please note that the registration deadline is Friday, September 6th. All delegates will receive this information in the mail upon receipt of convention registration.

Please note: workshops are open to all UE Convention delegates and any UE member (such as those living in the Raleigh-Durham area) who would like to attend. But, please do not register for the workshops unless you are definitely planning to attend the workshop sessions!

Morning  Session

  1. Job Preservation
    Tactics to fight outsourcing of jobs in the private sector, health care and the public sector. Led by UE International Representative David Cohen.
      
  2. Bargaining in the "New" Economy
    A look at 5 major bargaining challenges and strategies for negotiating committees. Led by UE International Representative Carol Lambiase and UE International Representative Gene Elk.
      
  3. Regional Organizing Councils
    A caucus of ROC participants and other interested members from around the union & a workshop on next steps in developing the ROCs into an effective organizing vehicle for UE. Led by UE Director of Organization Bob Kingsley.
      
  4. Arbitration - How To, When Forced To
    How to thoroughly plan and prepare for the best possible case while avoiding the pitfalls of arbitration. Led by UE International Representative Steve Tormey.
      
  5. Success with Political Action
    Making political action produce for your local. Led by UE International Representative Chris Townsend.

Afternoon Session

  1. Inside Strategies
    What to do when the boss says no. What’s legal, what’s illegal and what works. Led by UE International Representative David Cohen.
      
  2. Combating the Assault on Labor
    Dealing with the tactics and myths propagated by employers to keep workers from organizing. Led by UE International Representative Carol Lambiase and UE International Representative Chris Townsend.
      
  3. Bargaining over Health Care Today
    A look at the health care industry, bargaining table tactics and political solutions. Led by UE Research Director Lisa Frank and UE International Representative Leanna Noble.
      
  4. Arbitration - How To, When Forced To
    How to thoroughly plan and prepare for the best possible case while avoiding the pitfalls of arbitration. Led by UE International Representative Steve Tormey.
      
  5. Communicating with Members
    Using New Electronic Tools
    From websites to e-mail ... how to easily communicate and build involvement. Led by UE Special Projects Coordinator Rick Peduzzi and UE International Representative Gene Elk.
